I grew up in California and studied geology and resource economics in college. I’ve lived all over the country, working in the environmental and conservation fields. Painting in watercolor now for over thirty years, Chinese brush painting is my latest passion.
I live on Orcas Island full-time. I feel a special empathy toward animals with whom we share this planet. It has been very sobering seeing the arc of change for the planet, something that should occur on a scale of millions of years, but happening in my lifetime. Using strokes of ink on xuan paper to capture an animal’s mood can be challenging. I’m always hoping for that miracle when the painting takes on a life of its own.
