Andrea Erickson

Artist Biography

A native of Tacoma, WA and a graduate of Stadium High School, Andrea Erickson studied watercolor painting under Bunny Halligan at the age of 9. Recently Andrea has studied watercolor, mixed media and sumi painting under reknowned artists Fumiko Kimura. With her main emphasis on work being Japanese ink sumi painting, Andrea has also expanded her art to include kanji ( Japanese brush calligraphy). Her interpretive kanji highlights the bold and spontaneous quality of the style in contrast to traditional landscape painting.

Andrea is a long time member of the Puget Sound Sumi Artists and has served on its Board in numerous positions, including President, past honors include the award for Innovative Calligraphy at the annual Sumi-e Society of America 42nd Annual National Show, first place at the Prodor Juried Art Show, the Jurors Choice Award at Kirsten Gallery and numerous awards.

Andrea’s work can also be seen at the White Dove Gallery in Lakewood, WA and the Teaching Toys in Tacoma’s Proctor District.
