Maureen Herward
Artist Biography
Born into a musical family, Maureen often paints to classical music for inspiration to create the “art in her heart.” She blends techniques, rooted in the works of artist Wu Ch’ang-shih (1844-1927), with impressionistic styles to create a unique style she dubs sumi French.
Maureen humbly has studied for more than a dozen years with Yuming Zhu, master artist and former president of the Overseas Artists Association. Dedicated to painting art of peace and harmony, her work frequently is sold at charity auctions to raise money for education and museums.
Several years ago, she extended the reach of sumi art with a bamboo rendering on a 6-foot by 6-foot, custom-made wall of Arizona flagstone installed in a private residence. An award winning writer and author, she earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
